Henan Overview

As we know, Chinese civilization originated in the Yellow River basin and among the eight provinces, Henan is the most important. Indeed, the buildings are traced more than seven thousand years and the remains date back to 3,500 years. Henan was once the seat of power for a very long time when the cities of Anyang, Luoyang and Kaifeng were declared the capital of the Middle Kingdom in 20 dynasties.
The natural landscapes are hidden in the northern region of Henan. Although less valuable and complete with the rich history, rugged mountains delight visitors in search of unexplored areas.
Due to its geographical position in the south-west of Beijing, on the way to Xi'an, Henan has a highly developed transportation system. Thus, the province can be reached by train from all major cities.

Things to do in Henan

Besides visiting archaeological sites in the ancient capitals, Henan has one of the largest Buddhist grottoes in China: Longmen Grottoes. You can admire the masterpiece of rock art inspired by the Buddhist religion. The Kung Fu enthusiasts found their interest in Henan since they could visit the Shaolin temple, the cradle of Chinese martial art, which is a 2 hour drive from Luoyang. Standing in front of the Shaolin temple and the Mount Song also offer splendid panoramic views on a camera. Luoyang, today named as the capital of peony, hosts the annual Peony festival. You can also check out the white horse temple which would be the first Buddhist temple in China.
