Xumi Fushou Temple Temple of Sumeru

Xumi Fushou Temple Chengde Hebei
As one of the Eight Outer Temples at Mountain Resort, the Xumi Fushou temple is built for the sixth Panchen Lama (i.e., the second highest ranking official of Tibet). The temple was modeled after Tashilhunpo Temple in Shigatse Tibet and includes elements of Han, Mongolian, and Tibetan architectural styles. The temple's main attraction is the eight golden dragons.

The Xumi Fushou Temple was originally built as a place for the sixth Panchen Lama to stay when he visited to celebrate the Emperor Qianlong's seventieth birthday. The temple was modeled after the Panchen Lamas' Tibetan residence, the Tashilhunpo Temple. The temple also includes elements of Han and Mongolian architecture (e.g., the glazed tile roof and the trapezoidal windows). Besides the architectural wonder, the temple houses eight very large and magnificent golden dragons and each weigh more than a ton!
