Sanxingdui Museum Deyang Sichuan
The Sanxingdui Museum contains some of the most important discoveries during excavations in the region of Guanghan in Sichuan. As an evidence of a disappeared civilization which lived 5,000 years ago in the Yangtze basin, the found bronze objects are a treasure regarded as the 9th Wonder of the world by someone. According to archaeologists, the site is even more important than the Terra Cotta Army.

Impressive Archaeological Site

40 kilometers away from Chengdu, in the city of Guanghan, the Sanxingdui site is a treasure of the Chinese millenary culture. Dating back to the Shang dynasty, the Shu civilization would have existed between 2 800 and 800 BC. Located in the region of current Sichuan it is an entire city which was discovered. Spanning 12 km², it is the largest city of Asia which was rediscovered. Archaeologists believe that this site is even much more important than the mausoleum of the Terra Cotta Warriors. But this civilization remains the total mystery on how it disappeared of which seemed very advanced for its time. No Chinese historian mentions the civilization in the Shu Kingdom and no other country has explanation on this civilization, so it is even unclear how it disappeared. However, these findings are fundamental because they prove that Chinese civilization was not only developed in the basin of the Yellow River but also on that of the Yangtze 5,000 years ago.

Extraordinary Bronze Art in Sanxingdui

The discoveries on this site show this civilization would have lived in the Bronze Age and already had advanced developed for the time. There are more than 10,000 objects that were found in Sanxingdui. Mainly in bronze, there are also excavated objects in gold, jade, ivory and bone. The most impressive of these objects are mainly in bronze and are exceptional for the techniques used to shape. Three objects are worth particular attention. First of all, there are six bronze humanoid masks that were coated with a gold foil. The statue of a slender man with huge hands on a pedestal is also amazing. But most impressive is the bronze spiritual tree dated from 1200 B.C. All made of bronze, it rises to 4 meters in height and many bronze birds are on the trees too.

The Collection for the Museum

On the main archaeological site has opened a museum to present to the public the mysteries of this civilization. With hundreds of excavated objects, it is a unique gold mine. Whether passionate or not by the archaeological relics, it is impossible not to be stunned at the richness of the techniques developed 5,000 years earlier by this civilization disappeared.
Many people consider also this discovery as being the 9th Wonder of the world!
