The Chinese name can be confusing because usually the character "si" is used for the temples. Out here, the term is applied to name the village itself. It simply sits on the border of three provinces. Here live the Han Chinese, Tibetans and Muslims. Lie in part in Gansu, there is a temple for the prayers, in the part Sichuan, a temple dedicated to the study and in the part of Qinghai, a mosque for Muslims. And yet every religious site is only 5 minutes’ walk from each other!
On the slopes of hills surrounding the monasteries of Dacheng Lamo and Kerti Gompa, Tibetan traditional sky funerals are still practiced. Indeed, the custom is to leave the body to be eaten by the vultures, so the body can take part in the cycle of life together with the soul... it is possible to admire the spectacle helplessly, respect for tradition.
