This former garrison post dates back to fourteenth century. The first Ming emperor had indeed noticed the strategic interest to install a camp and a standing army posts. Due to its geographical location, Qingyan was only built in stone. Extremely well preserved, it is yet more feel the military presence here.
This military post gradually became a traditional Chinese village. Military were replaced by traders during the Ming dynasty and it went well in the Qing Dynasty. From a small size, the city extends over 3 km² and yet brings in together the four religions of Catholicism, Christianity, Taoism and Buddhism. Its fortifications are 10 meters high and are visible from afar. This explains why they were able to be used as watchtowers. Inside, stone bridges, temples and traditional houses just waiting for you.
