Dazhao Temple the oldest Buddhist temple in Hohhot

Dazhao Temple Hohhot Inner Mongolia
The Dazhao Temple in the old city of Hohhot is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in the city. Built there almost 500 years, the third Dalai Lama traveled in-person to inaugurate the treasure of Dazhao, a splendid statue of Sakyamuni. Other beautiful sites to see include gorgeous frescoes scattered on the temple walls and two golden dragons who are portrayed as guardians of the treasure.

In the heart of the old city of Hohhot, Dazhao Temple beautifully rises among the maze of narrow streets.  Built during the Ming dynasty, this Lamasery showcases the Buddhist shrine of Hohhot. It is almost 500 years old and one of the largest temples. The Dazhao Temple is very big and has lots of little marvels. For example, the frescoes at the entrance pavilions and corridors are worth seeing. Although busy, it is a place not to be missed during a visit to Hohhot.  Indeed, the temple contains a fabulous statue of Sakyamuni, created with silver of 2.5 meters in height.  Before this magnificent statue, stand two dragons carved on pillars covered with gold. The whole view is a stunning beauty. The third Dalai Lama would even come to preside over the opening ceremony of the silver Buddha.
