Five Pagodas Temple Wutasi

Five Pagodas Temple Hohhot Inner Mongolia
The Five Pagodas Temple is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful buildings in Hohhot. Although partially destroyed, the building on which the majestic pagodas are built is still standing today. Located behind the temple is another site to behold, a very rare, Mongolian astronomical table in the region.

In the old city of Hohhot is a temple that is quite unique. Although many areas of the building have been destroyed, amongst its remains is the main part of the building, which contains five majestic pagodas. This temple is one of the most beautiful buildings in the city and holds rare treasures. The building is vertically divided into three parts.  The summit, which is accessible by stairs, is composed of five pagodas of brick and stone.  The central pagoda has seven floors while those located at the four corners have only five floors.  The central pagoda is evidence of cultural exchanges between China and other countries because it mixes Chinese architecture in an Indian-Buddhist style.  It is here that Buddhists lay their vows. The base of the temple, in turn, contains a chart of Mongolia, which is the only existing in the province. Inscriptions of the Diamond Sutra are also visible and are written in Mongolian, Tibetan and Sanskrit. The central part is probably less exceptional with just a statue of Buddha and Four Devarajas.
