Nietang Tara Temple Buddha Attisha and Bodhisattva Tara

Nietang Tara Temple Buddha Lhasa Tibet
Nietang Tara Temple is simple and neat. Although modest in size, it contains some very interesting sculptures and frescoes. Dedicated to Bodhisattva Tara, its likeness can be found everywhere but especially on the sculpture outside the temple,

Origin of the Temple

The Story of Nietang Tara temple dates back over a thousand years when the Attisha Buddhist was invited to settle in the city of Nietang, 20 kilometers away from Lhasa to form disciples to the Buddhist religion. In 1054, nine years after his arrival, he died and his followers then decided to build a small temple in his honor and for the female Bodhisattva Tara. This temple, also called Drolma Lhakhang often impresses visitors by its simplicity. Sculptures and frescoes inside are very interesting. Attisha from Bengal, many devotees come to pay him homage in the temple. So much to explore.

A Unique Sculpture

In the heights of a pavilion, the disciples of the Attisha engraved Nietang Buddha in the rock. Still well-preserved today, this sculpture is the major attraction. The quality of the rock, the proportions of the statue, the fine lines and vibrant colors used are a perfect combination that makes the living sculpture.
