The Tibet Museum is intended for the preservation of traditional Tibetan culture. The customs, religion, medicine or links with the Han Chinese are well-presented here. Some are priceless treasures which represent important heritage for the Tibetan people.

Preservation of Culture

Founded in the late twentieth century, the Tibet Museum boasts a large portion of regional treasures gathered from various sites. Among about 40,000 objects already presented in this museum, more than a thousand of them trace the cultural history of this legendary region. Its primary function is to preserve the culture of the Tibetan people. Village customs and traditions even been built to present the clothes and lifestyle of Tibetans. This museum boasts a collection of around 1,000 artifacts, showing Tibetan art, architectural design throughout history.

Friendly Relations

The Chinese government has built this museum to better focus on good relations than maintained the autonomous region of Tibet with China for several centuries. For some symbol of Sino-Tibetan relationship, the museum was built in an architectural style incorporating mixture of the two entities.

Priceless Treasures

The museum not only comprises antiques, but also Tibetan artworks. It contains statues and Buddhist Thangkas as well as sutras and providing infinite knowledge about religion, like medicine, Tibetan history and sculptures. Some of the books were written in gold powder, silver or coral! Jewels offered by the pilgrims are also exposed, such as jade stones or coral. So much to explore.
