Yangpachen geothermal sources

Yangpachen Lhasa Tibet
In the middle of the plateau of Tibet, Yangpachen changes traditional landscapes of the region. Vapor geysers rub to create a mystical atmosphere. While strolling around, don't miss the warm water lakes and hot springs that are interspersed with a thermoelectric plant.

Hot Springs

Located nearly 90 kilometers away from Lhasa, Yangpachen boasts unique landscapes. Extending over 40 km², it is only steam and geysers of sight. The lake water is very hot, throwing off smoke, which creates a mystical atmosphere to the scene. The temperature can reach 70°C and when the windows are open, water and boiling steam can even soar 100 meters high! Baths are offered to visitors. Although no major therapeutic properties, the hot springs are only rich in hydrogen sulphide, which is beneficial. Indoor and outdoor pools have been built. Sometimes snowflakes fall while you still enjoy the warmth of the bath.

Geysers and Fountains

Although it’s not famous as other sites, like the Potala Palace, Yangpachen has attracted numerous visitors for the unique beauty of the lake and hot water geysers. This plain is also known for its warmth. It must be remembered that we are already at 4,300 meters altitude. Yangpachen is also one of the highest sources of hot water in the world, so much to enjoy!

Geothermal Station and Nomads

Established in 1977, the station supplies a large part of the electricity of Lhasa and serves to agriculture vegetables and fruits in season. This does not seem to disrupt the nomads and their herds of yak. Natural environment is well-preserved, as you can see the animals roam amid the hot springs in total indifference.
