Grape Valley an oasis of freshness and white grapes

Grape Valley Turpan Xinjiang
In an oasis of freshness, Grape Valley offers an ideal retreat to enjoy Turpan grapes and wine. Dried grapes, seasonal fruits, and vines extending out of sight ... it's enjoyable to spend some time in a cool contrast to the surrounding desert and the Flaming Mountains.

A Desert Oasis

It is hard to imagine that Turpan is an agricultural land where grapes and many other fruits and vegetables are grown. And yet, this is the case! Despite its proximity of the Flaming Mountains, water supplies can reach Grape Valley. The scenery created by the red mountains and the green oasis is sensational.
This 8 kilometers long oasis is a cool retreat from the furnace of desert and mountains. Only 10 kilometers from Turpan (or Turfan), it has the distinction of being 155 meters below sea level. This is the second lowest place in the world after the Dead Sea!

Hundreds of Grapes

This green valley is famous for its grapes. There are over 600 varieties, including the famous white seedless grapes. Within the 988 acres of this site, the Uighur community also grows other fruits depending on the season. Thus, it is possible to taste peaches, apricots, watermelons, melons ...and, if the main reason for a visit is to taste delicious raisins, then raisins too. The grapes are in fact mostly dried in "Yam Houses”, which are Bamboo enclosures that have many holes to let in the air and sunshine. Grapes are dried here naturally and effectively that they maintain their sugar and perfume.
It's been 2000 years since the Valley became dedicated to the production of grapes! Locals, therefore, have an incomparable know-how and keen sense of this process!

Best Season

The grape valley is best visited during the harvest season, around September. It is a time where there are just acres of grapes ready to be picked or dried. But in summer, a tour can also be enjoyed as a means to recover from the sweltering heat of the fiery mountains. Tasting different fruits and, of course, wine is highly appreciated by most visitors during the summer months.
